November 2011 - Defence practice devices uncovered

Further to online media reports, please find below a statement from Ngāi Tahu Property in relation to the devices found at Wigram Skies.

We have since spoken with the New Zealand Defence Force who have confirmed directly with us that items uncovered were practice devices and were never live.

“Ngai Tahu Property has very strict health and safety protocols on all sites for all contractors, subcontractors, staff and visitors.

Yesterday and today, items were uncovered at the Wigram site that contractors immediately thought were military in nature and the strict protocols for this former military site were immediately followed.

After investigation, the police have confirmed that the practice devices were inert. They have now been removed. Ngai Tahu Property will continue to be extremely conscious of and focused on robust health and safety measures.”
